Waterlea Book Week

Kia orana Whaanau

Welcome to Book Week! We got off to a great start to this week celebrating books and each day there has been a mystery reader in the library – I wonder who it was today?

Don’t forget that our tamariki get to dress as their favourite book characters on Friday and take part in our Book Parade at the MANA Assembly on Friday 14 August. You are all welcome to come join in the fun!

Yesterday our girls and boys senior school football teams participated at the MOSA interschool tournament at Seddon Fields in Western Springs. They all played very well and demonstrated their MANA values throughout the day. Congratulations to the Waterlea Boys Football teams who came in first and third place! Well done to the Waterlea Girls Football team who played so well too. A big thank you to Georgina Robb for coordinating our teams and preparing them for the day, and to the parents who came to support yesterday with coaching and supporting our teams. Thanks for your help!

Have a good week.

Ngaa mihi

Book Week Bookface Challenge-Guess who?

Attendance

Our attendance rate as a school for the fourth week for Term 3 is at 84% . You might have noticed that there was quite a drop from last week’s attendance rate of 94% to this week. The main reasons for this have been sickness and term time holidays.

As always, please remember to let the office know if your child is going to be away and the reason for the absence. This information will allow us to enter the correct attendance code for your child. You can phone the office on 096364233 or email reception@waterlea.school.nz.

If your child is going away during the school term please email principal@waterlea.school.nz with the details for the absence and the dates your child will be away.

Keep up this great mahi in ensuring your children are coming to school each day!

Middle School Writers

The Year 4 writing groups have been learning about astronomical cycles and applying our knowledge to various forms of creative writing. When crafting our “Odes to the Moon”, we included figurative language such as similes, metaphors and personification to engage the reader and express our emotional response to different phases of the Moon. We hope that our writing inspires you to take an extra peek at that little light in the sky tonight.
